Denise Austin: 3 Week Boot Camp

Great! Better than several of Denise Austin's other videos!
This is a very good workout video - especially if you're a Prime member & can get it "free." It's my favorite of the Denise Austin Prime Instant Videos.

I would categorize this as moderate intensity, a little more intense than the similar title by Denise Austin "Boot Camp - Total Body Blast." I broke a sweat pretty quickly, found all the exercises doable, & thought the pace was just right.

I would recommend this to people who exercise occasionally & are trying to get better shape, but aren't quite ready for the more intense video sets available for a cost. You need to be fairly mobile, but it doesn't have any moves with particularly challenging footwork or speed. It utilizes some brief yoga, pilates, & stretching, but not much of the tae bo style air karate (which I don't miss at all). Also, it is preferable to have small (not bulky) barbells available, probably between 2-10 lbs (2 of them) for about a 15 minute portion of the boot camp, & some people might...

Good Low Impact Cardio
Denise Austin is not my type of fitness instructor, and be warned, if you love Jillian Michaels' style, you are likely to dislike Denise Austin. However, if you are looking for some low impact cardio, Denise Austin's Boot Camp is a great way to go.

First, what is great about this workout. The moves are fairly simple and build upon themselves. So you might start with a side squat for several reps per side. Then she will add an arm movement, say a curl, to the squat, and so on. So while the final sequence might be a bit complicated, the build up makes it easy to follow. In addition, she keeps you moving the whole time, which helps maintain a pretty steady heart rate throughout the workout. Denise also recognizes a vastly important tenant good cardio workouts: work multiple muscle groups at the same time. She rarely has just a single muscle group working, and when she does, she quickly adds in others to help burn more fat. Lastly, there are three workouts in this DVD. I will...

Great workout
Denise Austin is great at what she does. If you like the in your face/negative type of trainer, then she won't be for you. If you like cool music, don't look here. But if you want a great workout, she provides it.

This video has three portions- a cardio heavy 20 minute workout, a 20 minute workout that focuses more on kettleball inspired moves, and a short "ab blast". I only do the first two workouts.

The workouts are a good length and deceptively challenging. I've been doing them every day for three weeks, and am surprised how sore and worn out I still get. I'd recommend that if you're starting out, doing it for a week or so without weights to acclimate. (And I was already in shape/accustomed to working out when I started).

Overall I think this a great set of workouts.
