My Sassy Girl

The movie is much better than the name implies
I kept NOT watching this movie because of the name... but I kept reading great reviews about it online. So I finally did watch it. Classic of the genre, the intricate story line is everything! A fun, quirky, embarrassing, painful, humorous, raw, and poignant reflection of two people who happened to meet. Fantastic ending! A very enjoyable way to spend two hours, in fact: This is a story that stays with you. NO spoilers here, the great reviews are well deserved. Sometimes the subtitles fall short, but it doesn't ruin the movie.

Wonderfully funny, thoroughly Korean melodramatic rom-com
This is a modern classic, and its themes have been copied in myriad other Korean films since its release (even copied into a Hollywood version of this film starring Elisha Cuthbert), but the themes are thoroughly Korean, derived from age-old Korean folk tales and stories (see the story of Gyeon Woo and Jik Nyeo - 견우와 직녀 - for one example). The split nature of the story and the pacing might seem odd to those more familiar with Hollywood-style movies, but the story is engaging, humorous, and sweet, and entertains from beginning to end.

Step Outside the Box
This film has a bit of all things. At times it works well and at other times it doesn't work so well. For being one of the first Korean Language films I have ever watched it was an excellent toe dip into the culture of Korean Cinema. After viewing I understand why it was such a big hit in South Korea.

The Tuche Family (Les Tuche)

A reminder that French films can be silly comedies
A silly story about a "hick" family who wins the lottery and moves to Monaco. A bit like "Beverly Hillbillies," but as a Francophone, it was interesting to see a French film follow an American setup. It's tongue-in-cheek and shouldn't be taken seriously. There is a sweet message to be learned.

The Road To The 27th WrestleMania
Royal Rumble 2011:
The PPV is always highlighted by the traditional Royal Rumble match but WWE went a different direction with this match in that it was a 40 man battle royal instead of the traditional 30 making it the biggest Royal Rumble match in history. Other matches include World Champion Edge vs. Dolph Ziggler with the stipulation that if Edge used the spear then he would lose the championship, WWE Champion The Miz vs. Randy Orton, and Divas Champion Natayla vs. Eve Torres vs. Michelle McCool vs. Layla.
DVD extras include a post-match interview with Eve & the Royal Rumble winner's celebration the next night on RAW. Blu-Ray extras include the episodes of RAW & SmackDown before the PPV featuring matches like John Morrison & Mark Henry vs. King Sheamus & Alberto Del Rio, Divas Champion Natalya vs. Melina, Edge vs. The Miz, Daniel Bryan & Bella Twins vs. Ted DiBiase & Maryse & Alicia Fox, Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov vs. Husky Harris & Michael McGillicutty, C.M. Heartbreaker [HD]

Fine French Fluff
HEARTBREAKER ('L'ARNACOEUR') is a delightful bit of French fluff, created as only the French know how. There are 'quotes' from certain films and songs that mix the two main characters together and add to the meringue of the farce. Based on a light story by Laurent Zeitoun, Jeremy Doner, and Yhan Gromb and directed with a fine sense of comic timing by Pascal Chaumeil, this is one of those examples of the farces the French do so well.

Alex Lipp (Romain Duris), his sister Mélanie (Julie Ferrier) and her husband Marc (Fran

A Mexican Sex Farce That Plays By All The Expected Rules: We Have Alfonso Cuarón To Thank Or Blame!
Being a huge fan of Alfonso Cuarón's "Y tu mamá también" and having watched his evolution in American cinema (capped off with the great "Children of Men"), I was excited to check out this presentation of an early Cuarón film: "Sólo con tu pareja." Described here (and in many places) as a romantic comedy, I'm going to call it what it is. It is a pretty traditional sex farce. Anyone familiar with the sex farce genre (particularly international efforts from France and Spain) will instantly recognize many of the elements (both good and bad) which seem to follow this type of film. It may have been a groundbreaker in Mexican cinema, but it plays by all the expected conventions.

Any good sex farce teaches two major lessons: (1) promiscuity or irresponsible sex can be funny and (2) true love and redemption can be found in the arms of a character you either know nothing about or have nothing in common with. "Sólo con tu pareja" adheres to...
